Success!

Friday afternoons are our weekly date time (a perk of having a husband who works from home). And today we found THREE new places to love in Cincinnati! THREE! Got a haircut at the newly-opened High Five Salon. It's such a creative, artsy space and the people who opened it and work there are first class. So if you're a local, you should totally check it out. It's worth it.

Lunch at the BonBonerie...amazing. I need to go back for their afternoon tea sometime.

Then finally Atomic 10, a vintage thrift store downtown I've been meaning to check out. Such a pretty rainbow of vintage dresses....so dreamy : )

I walked away with a cute "new" dress (show ya later) and Daniel got a shirt and tie. A pretty successful date, I'd say!

Hope you guys have a great weekend! It's a three-day one for us here in the U.S.! Lots of family coming in town, BIG fireworks on the river, beautiful forecast....good times, good times.

Party Balloons

We're still getting settled in to our new routine now that Hudson is in kindergarden. I actually don't mind the early mornings as much as I thought I would. Biking to and from school with Hudson is quickly becoming this sweet little daily bonding time for the two of us. And I think Jude is enjoying the little bit of extra attention he's getting now that he's got both parents to himself for part of the day. Sweet, little, Jude....getting bigger every day!

Fall Fashion!

The 90+ degree forecast for this week seems anything but fall-ish. But I feel this subtle yearning for fall all of the sudden. Today I found myself browsing fall fashions, drinking hot tea, and wanting to curl up and watch all 6 hours of the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice.

(side note: you should get together some of your friends and have a Pride and Prejudice party one rainy weekend. Watch 2 hours, take a break for tea and scones, watch the middle 2 hours, break for finger sandwiches and tiny little desserts on a fancy tray, watch the last 2 hours, then go home and tell your husband you want him to take up horseback riding and a British accent. ; ) I've done it twice before and it's awesome!)


So here are my favorite fall fashion finds. Most are from Anthropologie (no surprise) with a dash of American Eagle. Throw in some thrifted dresses and a few pairs of leggings and I think I'd have quite a sweetly-feminine autumnal wardrobe.

Here's a "5 FAVS: The Kitchen Edition" for you.... just 5 little things in our kitchen right now that I love.....


The loose walnut green tea I brought home for Daniel yesterday. It smells sooo good.


The colorful tomato harvest. If you haven't had homegrown tomatoes, you haven't had tomatoes!

Shadeau bread! Local. Fresh. Amazing.


The smell of a just-opened bag of coffee beans. I discovered this coffee yesterday at my favorite coffee spot. They are partnering with Village Life Outreach who is partnering with our Alma Mater to do beautiful things in Tanzania. Makes me proud : )


And these two crazy love birds.

DIY Fabric Softener

(DON'T FORGET ABOUT THE B.O.G.O. SALE GOING ON IN MY FONT SUPPLY SHOP!!)

We're all about trying to "green" our day-to-day life while having fun doing it! Little things like riding our bikes to school and work and around town instead of taking a car when possible, or buying local when we can (bought our bread for tomato sandwiches from this bakery today...sooooo good)

So last night we made our own fabric softener! I found the super-simple recipe here. Time will tell if it actually works but at least we had a lot of fun doing it. The baking soda/vinegar mixture gets super bubbly : ) And we used lavender oil to scent it (I've been on a lavender kick recently...very relaxing)




Next on the "greener home/fun experiment" list is Soule Mama's peppermint laundry powder recipe. I'll let you know how that goes.


Who knows if these small measures will actually have any real effect on the environment. But at very least they are building into our boys an attitude of good stewardship and DIY...ness. Aaaand it's a lot of fun : )
