The Weekend.

An evening at the theatre.

A morning at the park.

An afternoon at the market.

With a bit of apartment hunting, late night board game playing, fireside chatting, and art festival shopping sprinkled in between. Perhaps not the most restful weekend, but a good one : ) Hope your week gets off to a good start!

BeLoved. BeFree.

These phrases seem to be calling to me from songs and verses everywhere. I'm such a do-er and an earner that sometimes it's really hard for me to just stop and BE. Am I making any sense here? Hope so.
These prints are available in the shop if you need a visible reminder. I don't usually display my own art in our home but the blue one might find its way up on a wall somewhere where I can see it often.
Be Loved. Be Free. Oh, and check out this online art show. Daniel and I both participated and there is some pretty sweet work up.

Color Theory

Just a couple reasons why I love being self-employed artists...
...mid-day runs for necessary supplies, like paints, canvases, and an iced soy latte.
...chances to work on what I WANT to work on, not just what I'm hired to do. But don't get me wrong!! I also LOVE being hired!

...and lots of time with this dude. Date nights are always better after a day spent doing what we love.

Looking forward to this online art show tomorrow. Make sure to check it out! (And submit something if you're an artist).

In a Fog

For being a basement apartment in the suburbs, our little space has a lot of light and a lot of green. The fog that rolls in off the Ohio River early in the morning before the rest of the house wakes up makes it feel like there is no one else around for miles. Though I wouldn't call myself a morning person, mornings like this--not too bad : )

Painting today! I've been getting a lot of inspiration from this video. I love the colors in all the Sigur Ros videos. I could spend way too much time cruising the Sigur Ros and Sigur Ros-inspired videos on YouTube. Like this one! About 1/3 of the way through I realized "Hey! I recognize that city, that bridge, that river....that's MY city, MY bridge, MY river!" Right? Correct me if I'm wrong you Cincinnatians.

Later!

Happy Labor Day!

Cincinnati has big, beautiful Labor Day fireworks downtown on the river. Growing up, we had front row seats watching them from our boat. We'd pack a dinner, get our boat in the river early in the afternoon, and wait excitedly til nightfall.

This is the first year we've been in Cincinnati with our boys. And while we don't have a boat, a car with a sun roof was exciting enough--lots of ooh's and ahh's and excited laughter. We loved it : )
Today we picked up a book that's been on my wish list for awhile. I love the old school illustrations, the colors, the cute little bunny and his sweet little hollow tree home.

Today I am sporting one of Granny's dresses and a new haircut courtesy of my sister, Andrea. Considering the fact that she's not an "actual" "hairdresser" and has never really "learned" how to "cut" "hair" (excessive use of quotes courtesy of the this man), I'd say she's pretty darn good at it!
Gotta churn out a lot of art this week! Have a good Labor Day!

The Night Was a Blur

I love going out...seeing fun things, exploring new places, being inspired by the city--libraries, museums, restaurants, parks, shops, bookstores, the river, the trails. But sometimes, I really just love staying in...

Good night : )

A Bit of a Sick Day

Production has slowed down a bit around here today-- due to a co-worker who's feeling a little under the weather and needs to spend a lot of time in mommy's lap. Luckily I've been able to call in reinforcement.

Yesterday we welcomed September with some time outdoors--a little park time, a little hiking, a hint of fall crispness in the air.

Mostly we're excited about the season ahead. Though we'll miss you, summer. It's been good.
