Work Day

It's a "work on the house/fixing the car/cleaning/preparing for a big meal/trying to meet deadlines" kind of day. I just finished up rough sketches for illustrations for a photographer's website. I'm also finishing up a cd design project and the first 10 pages of the book I'm working on. Shew!

Apparently our car didn't need whatever this thing is cause Daniel took it out. Good riddens, black greasy thing!

And I'm attempting to make this bread for dinner tonight with some of the herbs from our little potted herb garden. I'll let you know how it goes : ) Happy weekend! I hope yours is more relaxing than ours has been!

Sticky Situations

Last summer when we wanted to cool off we just walked down to our local Atlantic ocean. This summer we'll have to settle for the next best thing-- a backyard, garden hose, and $5 sprinkler.

And we were in serious need of a good hose down after Jude's outdoor azuki bean popsicle (don't knock it til you try it) hair cutting extravaganza. My attempts at distracting him with food resulted in one sticky, hairy mess but, hey, desperate times...
Sorry these post have been low on art lately. I'm actually swamped right now but with projects I can't show you yet. Oh well. Hopefully my tales of motherhood will keep you entertained in the meantime.

Happy Memorial Day!

We've been enjoying family all weekend and it's awesome. One of the biggest perks of our move back home has been more time with family. There's just no substitute for grandparents who are so good at loving on their grandkids (including grandparents who regularly make the 10 hour drive to do so--thanks dad and Lisa!)

I hope your Memorial day is all about swimming in happy memories of loved ones who are gone and making new ones with loved ones you still have!

Red and Green

It's been a bright sunny day full of red and green.

Hudson and I saw a hummingbird fly by our window today which prompted a quick YouTube search for hummingbird videos which then prompted a quick trip to Lowe's and this new hummingbird feeder.
Mmmm...frozen water : ) On a hot day, almost anything sounds more enticing in popsicle form.
Aaaannd a new haircut courtesy of my sister. Thanks, Andrea! You're a genius!

Hope you have a great Memorial Day weekend!!

Date Night

One of the events that has finally worked its way back into our weekly rhythm is date night. Thank God for date nights! We're not ones to go to the same place every week. We like being a bit adventurous, trying new places, heading out with a plan, heading out without a plan, going out with other couples, being just the two of us... But I definitely have my favorites..

My favorite dates:
1. the coffeeshop/sketchbook date (live music a plus)
2. the long walk with scenic view date
3. the outdoor seating restaurant date
4. the bottle of wine/rented movie/comfy clothes/ night in date

Some dates I think I'd like but haven't tried yet...
1. the fancy picnic date (bottle of wine, cheeses I can't pronounce, picnic blanket that doesn't have a cartoon character on it)
2. the camping date
3. the "throw a dart at a map and just drive there" date
4. the vineyard wine-tasting date
5. the 2-week European date

Feel free to share your favorite dates!

By Color

Since I've been getting more and more into photography, I've been doing some updating to my long-neglected flickr page. So stop by my photostream and add me as one of your contacts if you're interested! I'm excited to explore other people's work and dive a bit deeper into the huge well of creative inspiration that is flickr!

Outtakes

I had so much fun this morning doing a photo shoot for one of my current projects. Dave and Laura are one of my favorite couples and they were great models. Thanks for your patience, guys! These are a few of my favorite outtakes.

I just looove the light and textures in this space!

And I love this wall in the downtown public library.

This afternoon I'm organizing our books by color on the bookshelf Daniel just finished making. (Yes, I know I'm a nerd). I'll have pics to show you shortly! Hope your day has been as full of colors and textures as mine has been!
