Co-Workers

I'm training in the art of multi-tasking (what mom isn't!)--folding laundry while paint dries, posting new work with a mini co-worker in my lap (hence the pile of cheerios under my computer desk), sketching at the breakfast table...creating beauty out of chaos...it's becoming my mode of operation around here. Today we had a little isight photo shoot on company time.

Here comes another favorite co-worker! THIS one is taking me out on a coffee shop/sketch book date tonight! Have a good one!

Colors

Our new space is slowly but surely coming together and I'm really liking the colors. It's a walk-out basement so there's lots of sunlight!
Turns out I AM buying art! My new Joel Blazer original! I love his use of colors.

And I love how this shirt turned out better than I expected. Yay for faded comfy t-shirts, good bands, and and getting to wear art!

Art Auction Before/After

Last night we attended an art auction where people from our church donated art to help raise money for a couple of our friends. My friend Stephen took these photos and I in all my Photoshop geekery touched them up a little. Hope you're having a good weekend. My goal--actually do some art this weekend!! It's been awhile!

Looking for a Web Design?

I'm not really in the web design business any more but now I'm teamed up with a company who is! So if you're in the market for a new website and you like my illustration style, check out Aeolidia Web Design and their list of available artists (myself included!).

Have a good one!

Be Here. Be Now.

You know how different phases of life often have a theme song. I've had quite a few as of late, several of them by the Robbie Seay Band. The lyrics to the song "Rise" that speak to my soul these days are posted here as a steady reminder...

Sometimes I get so caught up in life's storms that I miss all the little, every day good things that go on around me...ya know what I mean. So, yeah, I'm working on slowing down a bit--just being here, being now.

Snippets of Normal

It's been SUCH a transitional month that I'm starting to forget what "normal" looks like. But I have seen comforting hints of familiar over the last couple days.

Like the familiar faces of family and their smiles (after a week of lots of tears).

And treasures from Granny and Papa's house that have found their way into our new living space (aren't Papa's old shoes sweet!). The rug was made by my great-grandma.
This vintage sheet found deep in their closet. I plan on making a simple quilt with it once I find time for crafting again.
And art supplies that are finally getting a little organized.
We're slooowly starting to find our rhythm again...one that will hopefully include lots of art, long walks, cozy fires in our fireplace, dates with my husband, gardening, picnics, and family...LOTS of family.

A Beautiful Passing, A Life Well Lived

Sorry to be a bit m.i.a. We've been adjusting to community living (it went from 4 people living in this house to 10--including 5 kids ages six and under!) And yesterday my grandma passed away. So I wanted to share a little bit here just to honor her.

She passed away yesterday with my mom and my grandpa by her side. When it became apparent that she only had a few minutes/hours left, my mom called my aunt so she could say goodbye over the phone. Then she quickly called each of us 5 grandchildren. She held the phone up to my grandma's ear so we could each talk/sing/say good-bye to her. The oldest of us grandchildren lives in China. They couldn't reach her by phone so they sent her an email which she read right away though it was the middle of the night over there. She called my mom's cell phone and got to say goodbye to Granny. Less than a minute later, Granny passed away. God gave her a chance to hear us all before she left. It was very sweet.

My sister and I hopped in the car and drove an hour to see her. We sat next to her and sifted through her Bible which was full of notes, underlines, cards, and letters she'd written to God. In the front she'd written Psalm 71:18 -- "Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your might to all who are to come."

And, true to my grandma's personality, amidst all the notes and underlined verses, inside the front cover of her Bible she had the phone number for Crime Stoppers written on a post-it note. (I guess just in case all the trusting and faith in God didn't work out) ; ) She was funny. She lived, loved, served, played piano, sang, wrote, taught, and died well. And we'll miss her.
